Spring Term 2018
The main topic for this term is ‘Dragons, Castles and Knights’ along with the children’s interests. We will be sharing stories such as ‘Puff the Magic Dragons’ and ‘The Knight and the Dragon’ to develop our own adventures and “A year in the Castle’ to learn about the live in a castle.
We are planning to design our own castle and to have a medieval banquet!
Personal Social and Emotional Development
During our Circle Time children will learn about the knights’ code and we will link it to our school values. We will be learning how to be a good friend, how we can be more considerate to the needs of others, being honest, kind and helpful.
Communication and Language
As well as developing speaking, listening and literacy skills there will be opportunities to share our thoughts and explore how we feel about different stories and situations. We will develop our storytelling skills and use our knowledge to create role play and provide stimuli for art, dance, music and other creative play.
This half term we will have P.E sessions where we will learn about the effects exercise has on our bodies. We will be developing our moving and handling skills and discussing the changes in our body after we exercise.
We are focusing on counting from 1-10 and we will be encouraging children to recognise numerals in the environment.
We will also learn positional language in shape, space and measures. We will be learning to say where objects are, for example the doll is next to the pram or the doll is on top of the table.
We are still developing our writing skills in nursery. We encourage children to describe what they are drawing, as they are making marks on the page. Drawing pictures is very important. We are extending children to write their own names to develop their independence in preparation for reception.
Reading aloud to children for their pleasure and interest should build enthusiasm and enjoyment. Thought the day children will have different opportunities to share a favourite story, nursery rhyme, poem or non-fiction book with their teachers and peers. This is an important step towards independent reading and introduces children to new vocabulary and experiences.
Each child has a story book to take home to read with their parents. After you have read with your child, please remember to write a comment in their reading record book before they be changed.
Understanding the World
We will use computers and IPads to research about castles and knights and interact with age appropriate software. We will focus on developing our technology skills and talk about what we can observe in the natural world such as animals and plants.
Expressive Art and Design
We will be learning new songs related to our current topic. We will be exploring a range of materials such as, dough, construction, junk to create simple representations of things linked with our topics. We will explore colour and colour mixing within all of our topics.
Each child has a home learning folder. Home learning will be given out on Wednesdays and should be returned on the following Wednesday.
Each week you receive a newsletter informing you about what Nursery have been learning. You can access this via the school website and you will receive it by email. It will also detail messages and reminders of any important news.
Please make sure your child attends school every day and arrives on time. For children to achieve their full potential it is vital they have high attendance. Please ensure you collect your child promptly at 3:15pm from Nursery as it can be very distressing for your child.
